Rank the Star Wars movies

Last night I did something I never thought I'd do. Over the weekend I finally saw The Force Awakens and then came across a reddit article thoroughly detailing how and why Jar Jar Binks could be Emperor Snoke. Go check it out, it's pretty convincing when you go though the 4000+ replies as well. So I decided to go back and watch The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones last night, and while I don't buy the Jar Jar theory anymore, I realized that with time, my opinion has softened on them somewhat. Sure, they were too much aimed at kids and selling toys than an actual real well-written trilogy but once you get passed how bad the dialogue is, how effin annoying JJB is, and all the racial stereotypes they threw in there through various aliens, the movies themselves aren't as awful as I've always held. Sure, they still rank as the bottom two of the seven, but they are palatable in the larger sense of the series. I think back then we all went in expecting something more adult but kid friendly, and instead walked into films aimed too much at children and toy sales while forgetting that the thing that made the Original Trilogy so good is that it held for both kids and their parents, young adults, everyone. I remember being 21 and wondering why Star Wars had devolved into dreadful acting from a pre-teen "racing" in front a green screen. But now, I guess they aren't as bad as I used to think.

So that got me thinking on how I'd rank the seven films so far and wondering everyone else's order. I mean we all saw them at different ages or times, so maybe the variance will be interesting. For me, my 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 could easily flip with each other depending on the day and mood, but for now they'd be...

Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope
The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace

Just saw Force Awakens. I'm not really a Star Wars fan, but the new cast was fantastic. I already liked John Boyega from Attack the Block anyway, and he's great here. The whole cast has great chemistry, and real feeling in their performances. After years of hollow, soulless, snarky, self-impressed, meaningless superhero movies, it was nice to see a big blockbuster where the characters have actual feelings about each other. There were plenty of flaws, and I'd cut out at least 15 minutes, but I'd follow Rey, Finn, and Poe through more movies.

1. Empire
2. Force Awakens
3. The Luke/Vader/Emperor parts of RotJ (also Ackbar!)
4. New Hope
5. The other crap in RotJ
6. Sith
7/8. Phantom Menace/Clones

Well, it's been almost five years and multiple movies since this thread was posted. I just watched The Last Jedi for the second time, and didn't hate it as much as before, but it's still going to be at the bottom of my rankings. Anyone else want to give it a new go?
