The Scare-a-Con is an annual horror convention in Verona, NY at the Turning Stone Casino. This was my second year going, and my girlfriend came with me this time. Here's the pics!

Us with Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff, Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank from Mystery Science Theater 3000! I met them at last year's show, but they're always a pleasure, and I loved getting a picture with them and Roxie. One of the first things we ever talked about was MST3K, right after she found out my name is Joel.

Us with Jeffrey Combs! You probably know him from Re-Animator, The Frighteners, or most appropriate for this site, as the voice of THE QUESTION on JLU! He's also one of Roxie's absolute favorite actors. We're seeing him play Edgar Allen Poe on Halloween in a one-man show called Nevermore. He's a really nice guy and a true smartass. Roxie showed him the novelization of Re-Animator, specifically the part where it identified Herbert West as, I swear to you, CANADIAN. He was properly aghast at that. In her book, he wrote, "This author was desperate for inspiration, and found none."

Us with Felissa Rose, Angela from Sleepaway Camp! She was one of the sweetest people I've ever spoken to, and we had a great conversation with her about SC as one of the great anti-bullying films. And I found out she's married to Deron Miller of the band CKY (and the CKY video series, which later developed into Jackass)! I hung out with a lot of skater kids in high school, so that was a nice bit of nostalgia. In her autograph she called us a beautiful couple, which we're both still blushing over. Totally charming.

This was a huge one for me - AMY STEEL from Friday the 13th Part 2 and April Fool's Day! She's my favorite Final Girl in the whole Friday the 13th series, and quoted her awesome monologue about what Jason really is in her autograph. And she seemed genuinely thankful when I told her how much I admired her performance, and how awesome and unique it was to have a Final Girl survive by really working to understand what she was facing down. I wish more movies were like that in general. (Roxie hasn't seen any of the Fridays, but we'll probably get on that around Halloween).

(And you can see that awesome Fright Rags shirt in the background, which I obviously bought. Best shirt ever.)
