I've always thought he was great actor but yes, the subjects of his movies are quite different than others but usually the're very entertaining and he always performs well. I actually never seen Vibes, it's usually in the back of My head but just never got to it however I know the music is by the late great James Horner
Okay, the next Hackman movie is Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation from 1974
This movie was nominated for best picture. Hackman is a paranoid & a very secretive surveillance expert...
whom has a crisis of conscience when he suspects that some couple that he is spying on will be murdered
He plays the Saxophone here
A very young Harrison Ford is his co-star
This is 3 or so years before he was Han Solo in Star Wars...look at that
The late great Allen Garfield is in the movie.
The late great looking Teri Garr is too.
The late great Robert Duvall is as well in a important role that's uncredited
John Cazale, a Coppola usual is in the film.
There's a lot of this in the movie as they were showing us what was possible
There's some cool stuff here.
Here's the Trailer
More to come soon
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Yes and it's amazing when you see Harrison For pre-Han Solo days which I think is a big factor here Gosh, now a Lilo & Stitch live remake, what the heck
Okay, get ready for the next Gene Hackman movie
packerbacker180 wrote:I think I've seen that. I would've been 12 so chances are it would've been a rental or maybe it aired on tv. I loved DuckTales but that was a few years before that when it first started airing.
Okay, now We saw The French Connection a while back. It just wasn't that but We watched THE TRILOGY and it's fantastic So over the next couple of days I'm going to post the sequels
Hackman won an Oscar for best actor here.
William Friedkin won best Director as well. Watching this seriously reminded Me of his great The Hunted movie I spotlighted a while back because of the chase scenes.
Hackman looks really good as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle.
Roy Scheider is his partner.
They are a good buddy cop team and yes, there's surveillance here.
The Three Degrees play themselves
Fernando Rey is the bad guy...
and
Spoiler:
he get's away
Here's these two Cues by Don Ellis.
More French Connection & Popeye Doyle tomorrow
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
It's supposed to be a really good movie but I have not seen The French Connection. Unless you count the Sabres.
Heard a song this morning that made me think of Cool Hand Luke so here's a 4k modern version of the trailer. I think you'll know the song after watching this trailer.
"Somewhere in a lonely hotel room, there's a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him. It's 2 AM."
I guess it does count Yes, it's a very very good movie. I'm going to post the sequel in a moment. I actually never seen Cool Hand Luke before, just never got to it. Honestly, I really couldn't tell about that music. The only brief part I heard kinda sounded like Metallic's Unforgiven with is one of their best songs but I'm really not sure of that's what it was. That was an official WB trailer, not fan made. I had to see the comments to see what the people was saying about the music and what few people that was there basically said that the music did nothing for the trailer and should have been the movie's music. Really I gotta be honest that I agree. I'm like yeah, why didn't they choose a real piece of music from the actual movie itself Companies always do that The score was by Lalo Schrifin, I don't know if you know him. He's quite legendary and one of THE last of the great elite composers from a long time ago. He's Argentinean and slightly younger by a few moths than John Williams but is still 94 young He's known for the original Mission Impossible theme & music and the Amityville Horror. Here's the great Cue that he did for Cool Hand Luke
Okay, now moving on to The French Connection II from 1975 which is arguably even better than the first one
Gene Hackman returns Popeye Doyle. I just love his hat.
He's such a great character and one that I really like. Really, he's become of one of fave characters in recent time. There's just something about Gene Hackman, he was so darn good
Roy Scheider doesn't return because he & Popeye split-up due the storyline from the first movie. Also , he was doing Jaws at the same time
Fernando Rey continues his role but will he escape once again
Without a single doubt, Hackman should have won an Academy Award for this incredible performance right here. I was quite in awe how his performance was and what he had to go thru on screen was way before it's time I just love how he was talking about Baseball, The New York Yankees & Mickey Mantle...you gotta see this if you haven't already
Here's the Trailer
Don Ellis returns as the composer with more great work
Next will be the third & final entry on Popeye Doyle saga but this time will be played by somebody else but what until you see who that is
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Ah, I think you were looking too hard into the music for Cool Hand Luke. It's actually pretty famous dialogue from the film, which is a pretty good film. See my post in the Songs thread for the answer.
"Somewhere in a lonely hotel room, there's a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him. It's 2 AM."
Apparently, I was I never seen This is Spinal Tap from 1984 too.
Okay, so here's the last of The French Connection. The third one was a TV Movie on NBC back in 1986.
Gene Hackman didn't reprise the fun role but who replaced him... why it was Ed O'Neil
It also starred James Handy & Matthew Laurence.
O'Neil looked different here and wore the classic hat but lacked the fun intensity that Hackman brought to the table.
Though he did do a Football tackle.
The story of the film was decent. Candy Clarke was a stripper and his girlfriend. I really liked her here. This picture isn't from the movie.
I couldn't find a trailer or a commercial or whatever, but this was from 1986.
Here's the whole movie from 1986.
I'll see what's next.
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Even though I'm not a Minecraft gamer, it's good to see it's still popular. Yes, it's a surprise that Popeye Doyle was a TV movie not to mention that Ed O'Neil was the titled character. I recommend you see it sometime soon however, see the first two first, then you can compare Hackman and the overall difference of the fun of the movies. Another thing, I liked how Candy's Clark's character was. She liked the not-so handsome guys, she says how their better. Well, I've thought the same about girls & women. The ones that guys don't go gaga over or is less popular, obscure, whatever, that's the ones I like the most really
OK, here's this Gene Hackman called Mississippi Burning
This came out in 1988.
Remember when we were talking about Klansman & the KKK movies a while back Well, here's another good one but keep in mind, this is based on actual events and is a true story
Gene Hackman is the man in this.
However. a young William Defoe is his partner...
and he has a big presence here
Frances McDormand is the nice woman here.
The late great, real life drill Sgt. R. Lee Ermey is the Mayor
Michael Rooker is one of the heads of the KKK.
Brad Dourif has a different role as he is a deputy.
1988 was the same year he became Charles Lee Ray in Child's Play believe it or not
He has one heck of scene with big tuff guy Hackman
Groundhog's Day's Stephen Tobolowsky has a very surprising role here.
Pruit Taylor Vince is in the film and he's pretty young.
This pic isn't from the movie as he looks really different from later years. He's usually a weird bald guy with "the eyes"
Pic isn't from the movie. Kevin Dunn is in the film. He's the very important guy in Ghostbusters II that nobody ever mentions about again despite he was right
There's some cool scenery & action here of Mississippi
Here's the Trailer
The music was very good by Trevor Jones (The Dark Crystal, Arachnophobia, Cliffhanger, Desperate Measures, Dark City and The League of Extraordinary Gentleman).
Here's two versions of the great theme. This has the Saxophone.
Here's the alternate variant with no Saxophone
Another Hackman movie is coming tomorrow
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
That's one I've heard of but never actually seen. Honestly, I didn't even know who starred in it.
I actually remember watching these episodes of Press Your Luck as a kid. I loved that show. It used to be on in the mornings. I'm not sure Walter Goggins makes a decent Peter Tomarken, but someone has to play him, I suppose.
"Somewhere in a lonely hotel room, there's a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him. It's 2 AM."
